Soil Ⅱ: Present

This is a present. We create. We contemplate.
We find it in our heart to share the rumination process with the audience.
This is the present. We feel. We frame. We connect our body and mind in this moment.
In the present, we offer you the gift of sweetness and bitterness, with a tender aftertaste.
Like fertile soil nurturing creative seedlings, Soil Series brings forth three stories of perception this year: a meditation on breath explored through a musician's lens, discovering life's most primal rhythm; a prayer articulated through the body, giving voice to inner whispers; and an awakening through gazes, seeking existence between seeing and being seen. From the spaces between breaths, through spoken words, to exchanged glances, let us together savour this cross-disciplinary creation, sharing this gift of sensorial experiences.
In Between Breaths
Choreographer and Composer: Max Chan
Dancer: Gabbie Chan
We breathe as soon as we are born,
It is the calmest, most primitive, most natural thing to do.
On the path of life we walk and we run,
taking each breath not knowing which would be the last.
The one thing we do know,
is to cherish the time we are able to draw air into our lungs before we no longer can.
Between every inhalation and exhalation are moments of presence, and essentially our very existence.

To Be Seen
Choreographer and Dancer: Kelly Lee
You choose what to look at,
that you only see what you look.
You build a relationship when you gaze,
and when we have eye contact.
You know me by seeing me,
by seeing part of me.
You may know me or may not.
From not being seen to be seen by you,
I see myself eventually.
Do you see me,
between the darkness and the light?
Playing in a Prayer Box
Choreographer and Dancer: Luo Zhiying
Uninformed yelling, honest complaints, and unwilling to express helplessness;
The joy of being in high spirits, the will to win, the uncontrollable enthusiasm.
So eager but so evasive to express - can I order it?
Since you are the only one I can express my prayers to without any worries, I don’t need to worry about affecting anyone.
Box, send it out as much as you want.
Before I get the answer - so you know how to order?
